Tours, adventure trips in northern Patagonia

Snowshoeing - winter trekking

Usually, when we speak about Bariloche, winter and snow, we think about snowboard or skiing. Almost everybody thinks of Alpine skiing. A more reduced group thinks about Nordic skiing and just a very few, those more free spirited, about cross-country skiing. All these sports require a good amount of technical skill, appropiate physical conditions and expensive gear. The mountains that surround Bariloche feature beautiful lenga forests, splendid valleys and spectacular ridges unknown to the vast majority of tourists that visit us.

Due to the technical limitations just mentioned, or perhaps to the curiosity of exploring those mountains you see from Catedral Ski Centre or simply because you want to have a go at something different, the fact is that the amount of winter trekking followers of all ages, using snowshoes, keeps on growing over the years. A beginner needs no more than half an hour to learn how to walk properly with snowshoes. Their easy accessibility, makes Mount Otto forests and Challhuaco Creek Valley perfect sites for our first experiences. However as said before, snowshoes free us from following fixed trails and routes, all you need is snow. So be welcomed to winter trekking. The snowy forests and the freedom of choosing your way are waiting for you.
