4WD off road drive Patagonian Steppe
It
extends from the last heights of the Andean Range to the Atlantic
Ocean and from Colorado River to the Southest boundary of our
continent. The landscape features tablelands, hills and valleys
that descend as in a series of steps from the Andes to the East.
This area has undergone little change during the last milleniums.
Although for a long period of time it was wrongly called desert,
the region evolution took millions of years giving rise to a rich
diversity of plants and animals. Here the vegetation is low, with
spines, small leaves and pale colours, mostly espinos, coirones
and neneos. The guanacos, foxes, choiques, piches, maras, pumas,
eagles, cóndores and many others are some of the fauna components
.
Man has lived in this particular physical geography since about
12.000 years ago. Among the early inhabitants of Patagonia two big
groups can be distinguished: the Aoniken in the South and the Gununaken
in the North, both nomad hunters and collectors. These peoples have
left evidence of their culture through countless traces, including
what we know as Cave Painting, where they represented their
myths and rituals on old rocky walls.
We are currently reorganizing our company and updating our website so some of the programs mentions may not be available any more. We apologize for the inconvenience.
